About Students

Leigh Smith  

Leigh Smith is a native of Hickory, North Carolina. As an alumnus of Appalachian State University, she graduated in 1998 with a B.S. in Elementary Education. 

After teaching three years as a sixth grade teacher in Catawba County, Leigh is returning to Appalachian to pursue a Master's Degree in School Administration.

Looking ahead to the future, Leigh would like to return to the public school setting to work within the administrative structures to help children reach their full potential.

James W. Jackson Scholarship Recipients

The James W. Jackson Scholarship for Graduate Studies in Higher Education is awarded to students who have outstanding academic achievements in Higher Education.  Qualifying students must be enrolled in a graduate degree program in the Higher Education Department in the department of Leadership and Educational Studies at ASU, have successfully completed six semester hours and be enrolled, each semester, in at least six graduate hours of study. The following students have been awarded this $1000 scholarship for the Fall 2001 term:

The following student has been awarded this $1000 scholarship for the Spring 2002 term:

Sallie H. Taylor Memorial Scholarship in Library Science

This scholarship is awarded to students who indicate promise of outstanding ability and success in the school library media profession.  Qualifying students must be enrolled in a graduate degree program in Library Science in the Department of Leadership and Educational Studies at ASU, have part-time or full-time status and have a GPA of 3.5 or above.  

The following students have been awarded this $525 scholarship for the 2001 - 2002 academic year:

Louise Moore Plybon Library Science Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to students who indicate promise of outstanding ability and success in the school library media profession.  Qualifying students must be enrolled in a graduate degree program in Library Science in the Department of Leadership and Educational Studies at ASU, have part-time or full-time status and have a GPA of 3.0 or above.

The following students have been awarded this $625 scholarship for the 2001 - 2002 academic year:
