Launch

To introduce the literature unit to the group, I will have provided for them multiple books about Polar Bears. There will be books about the Arctic, about the types of people who live there, and about transportation, clothing, and life styles. Each student will have a chance to read and view the materials.  Then I will pull the group back together and we will proceed from there to work on a group K-W-L.  

In the K column, we will write down everything we think we know about Polar Bears.  Their size, color, eating habits, habitats.

In the W column, we will write down everything we want to know about about Polar Bears and their surroundings.

The L column is what we do after we have read our book and completed our activities.  In this column we will write down everything we have learned about Polar Bears.
