Character Sketcher

Your job as character sketcher is to identify passages in section 1 that exhibit the following actions (traits) for Opal:

You should then explain how each passage demonstrates or proves these traits, identify the character's goal (which is what the character wants to do or accomplish), identify the problem and solution in the reading, and completer a sketch or illustration of the character.

 

Discussion Director

Your job as discussion director is to write 5 questions and answers from the assigned reading.  You should write a "thinking" question on your own that will really spark a thoughtful discussion and then choose from these question types:

When developing your questions, think about Opal finding Winn-Dixie in the grocery store, Opal bringing Winn-Dixie home to meet his father, Opal's mother and father, or church.  You may also choose to ask question about a few of the ten things that Opal's father told about his mother.

 

Passage Picker

Your job is to choose 3 passages from the assigned reading.  Your passages should include 3 of the following types of passages:

Write down the page and paragraph number of the passage, the first and last two words of the passage, and the reason you chose this passage (make sure you explain why!).  Then, ask a question about your passage and give an answer.  Finally, answer one of the following two questions:  Why did the author include this passage in the story?  What does this passage add to the story?

Internet Investigator

Your job is to investigate the following link http://yahooligans.yahoo.com/content/animals/dogs/ and research your favorite type of dog.  You should  include the dogs appearance, facts about owning the dog, characteristics of the dog, and facts that you found interesting.  You should also answer one of the following questions:  What are some important characteristics about your dog that you should know before owning your dog?  Where did your dog originate from or what is it best known for?  With your answers, you should also include a detailed drawing or illustration of the dog that you choose.  Or you can visit the website about why responsibilities might get you what you want.  You should answer one of the following questions from this website: Provide two example of what being responsible means.  Give three suggestions on how to convince your parents that you are responsible enough to have a new dog.
