Discussion Director

Your job is to come with 5 thinking questions.  You need to write the answers to your questions, and the page numbers where your peers can reference the text to justify their responses to your questions.

When developing your questions, think about Little Billy's experiences with the Minpins, the tree, Don Mini, the Robins, and the Swan.

Passage Picker

Your job is to choose 3 passages from the assigned reading.  Your passages should include 3 of the following types of passages:

~1 Descriptive

~1 Cause/Effect

~1 Amusing

Write down the page number and paragraph number of the passage, the first and last two words of the passages, and the reason you choose this passage (make sure you explain why!).  Then, ask a question about your passage and give an answer.  Finally, answer one of the following two questions:  Why did the author include this passage in the story?  What does this passage add to the story?

Word Wizard

Your job is to complete the Word Wizard for the following three words:

~extraordinary p.17 par.2

~ancient p.17 par.4

~peculiar p.18 par.1

Then complete the following vocabulary activities:

Applause!  Applause!

·        Clap to show much (not at all, a little bit, a lot) you would like to be described by the word extraordinary.

Examples and Non-examples

·        Which would be ancient:

A fossil of a dinosaur or a new car?

Alike and Different

·        What is alike or different about these words: peculiar and odd?

Character Sketcher

Your job is to identify passages that exhibit the following traits for the Don Mini:

~Proud

~Truthful

~Terrified

You should then explain how each passage demonstrates or proves these traits, identify the character's goal (which is what the character wants to do or accomplish), identify the problem and solution in the reading, and complete a sketcher or illustration of the character.
