ITC 5320 Schedule

When there are synchronous online meetings, we will have two class meeting for each topic, please choose either one to attend (i.e. choose June 7th or 9th).

All meetings held in the ITC 5320 Summer 2011 course space within Teleplace.

Meeting 1: Jun 7 / 9 (choose one date that works for you) in Teleplace ITC 5320 Forum

• This session starts at 7:30 PM
• Introduction to Class
• Resources in Teleplace and ITC 5320 Discussion Forums

Activities:

1. Sign up on Discussion Board for ITC 5320 (if you don't have a logon for it) and introduce yourself to the class (also very important so later in the semester soyou can form groups).
2. Explore the course space for ITC 5320 in Teleplace

Assignments:

1. Read the "Relevant Quotations" page found in our Teleplace forum, and share your thoughts about these quotations on the Discussion Board.
2. Begin forming your group for telecommunications issues reading activities (online safety and identity) found in the glass break-out rooms in Teleplace.
3. Participate on Discussion Board (see News Reports, we will post items there from time to time...and you should feel free to do so also).
4. Explore the Network Basics readings in Teleplace. Ask questions or make observations about Network Basics on the Discussion Board.

Meeting 2: Week of Jun 14 / 16 (choose one date that works for you) in Teleplace ITC 5320 Forum

• This session starts at 7:30 PM
• Basics of Networked Computing
• Network Security

Assignments:

1. Participate in the activities for readings on telecommunications issues (online safety and identity) found in the glass break-out rooms in Teleplace.
2. Participate on Discussion Board.
3. Explore the Telecom Tools materials bookshelf. Contribute to the listings of strengths and weaknesses for the telecommunications tools and discuss these on the Discussion Board.
4. Feel free to explore the other class areas.

Due:

• Activities (readings and group discussion postings) associated with online safety should be completed. We will discuss this in our meeting, so be sure to read up on it in advance, so you willhave something to contribute to the conversation.

Week of June 19 (no synchronous online meeting)

• Continue working in your (assigned) groups on Project 1 cross program area activity - a proposal for integrating and supporting iPads in the classroom. Details of the project can be found in our Teleplace forum.

Assignments:

1. Feel free to explore the other class areas.
2. Post articles and news items related to telecommunication in schools and society in the Discussion Board

Due:

• Contribution to and participation in the discussion (Discussion Board) on Strengths and Weaknesses of Telecommunications Tools.

Week of June 26 (no synchronous online meeting)

• Types of Telecommunications and Educational Uses
• Telecommunications Supported Learning Activities
• What can telecommunications contribute to learning?  
• What do we know about conducting telecommunications learning activities?

Assignments:

1. Participate on Discussion Board.
2. Explore the Uses in Education materials bookshelf. Contribute to the Pool of Ideas and/or the discussion of Distance Education on the Discussion Board.
3. Feel free to explore the other class areas.
4. Post ideas for projects on the Discussion Board

Due:

• Activities associated with readings on online identity should be completed.
• Contribution to and participation in the discussion (Discussion Board) on Strengths and Weaknesses of Telecommunications Tools.

Week of July 3 (no synchronous online meeting) and July 19 / 21 (choose one date that works for you) in Teleplace ITC 5320 Forum

• The July 19/21 sessions start at 7:30 PM
• Telecommunications Supported Learning Activities
• Distance Education Issues
• What do we know about distance education?  Promising Practices?  Poor Practices?
• General reflection on the cross-program activity

Due:

• Explore the Uses in Education materials bookshelf. Contribute to the Pool of Ideas and/or the discussion of Distance Education on the Discussion Board.
• Project 1: Cross-Program Activity (due in Teleplace on/before July 16)

Week of July 24 (no synchronous online meeting)

• Presentation of Telecommunications in Instruction Projects in Teleplace. You will submit your projects as a webpage (i.e. Google Sites, wiki, etc.) and submit on the URL on the project bookcase in our Teleplace forum.

Due:

• Project 2: Telecommunications in Instruction Project (due online on/before July 24)
• Course Evaluations
• Individual Reflection Statement Due
