Course Description: This course will explore the role of computer in educational settings. The exploration will include the current status of educational computing, research on the use and trends of computers in learning environments, and current issues critical to the use of technology in educational settings. Emphasis is placed on using this knowledge base to develop practical applications of computers to support learning. Students should already have an operational understanding of basic computer application software (if not, please inform the instructor).
Course Text: No "text" is required,
though we will select, read and discuss a number of books in small groups.
Growing up Digital
(on-line supplement) by Don Tapscott. While you may want to
purchase this book, we will explore the major ideas, chapter summaries,
questions of the week, etc. on-line.
Additional supplemental readings will be obtained on-line. A recent book of your
choice will be read, discussed and shared in a reading group.
